Sougia is a seaside village, that
belongs to Selino's county (Chania's prefecture). It's distance, is 70
km from the town of Chania, on a 5m attitude & located on the site
of ancient Syia.
If one wants to get in this
area, must start from Alikianos village & drive through the villages
Skines- Nea Roumata- Prases- Agia Irini- Cabanos- Agriles- Rodovani- Moni-
Sougia. Sougia has a big & wonderful beach & the visitor can take
a small boat from the port of Sougia & go to Paleohora or to Agia Roumeli,
the terminus of the Gorge of Samaria.
One can visit the ancient Lissos,
where worth seeing are the Asklipiion (Aesculapian temple), the ancient
theatre & the bathing facilities. Excavations also, have revealed the
remains of a roman aqueduct, in Syia, to which the water of a spring from
the village Livadas was brought.
