Built on a peninsula, it ends in a small
island on which a medieval castle is built. In Chora, you can visit the
old town with the narrow stone paved streets, and the new town with the
imposing mansions which were built in the beginning of the century, when
navigation was flourishing on the island. The island with the medieval
castle is separated by the Chora peninsula with a narrow stripe of sea
and is connected with the land with a stone bridge. The entrance of the
Chora port is marked by the famous Tourlitis stone lighthouse. It's a perfect
reconstruction of the old stone lighthouse which was destroyed. The lighthouse
is an offer of the Goulandris family. |
