Adamas is the island’s port, with
about 1000 residents. The village was built by Cretan refugees, arriving
from Sfakia in 1824. Due to its big, natural and safe port, it played an
important role during the world wars. The visitors of Adamas can admire
many monuments by those historic eras. Inside the village, the most important
sights are its churches, Agia Triada, Assumption and Agios Nikolaos. On
the south coastline of the village, there are the warm baths of Adamas,
known as Lakkou.
In Adamas, there are major hotel
facilities but relatively small motels and rooms for rent, which, under
a hospitable, family environment, ensure a pleasant stay for all visitors. |
