  Tinos Island - General info

Long-distance dialing code: 0283.
Population: 8000.
Distance from Piraeus: 86 nautical miles.

It was previously called Chora or Agios Nicolaos port. During the Byzantine era there were only a few houses which were abandoned because they were an easy target for the pirates. It revived during the Turkish occupation. There has been a boom in the last decades and today the ? of the island population lives here. This boom was also due to the discovery of the icon of Virgin Mary and the construction of the Evaggelistria church. There are a lot of restaurants, tavernas, cafeterias and souvenir shops by the waterfront. From the east side of the port the visitor can enjoy beautiful sunsets.
